Blogger Robin Walters wrote a post about Local Bacon TechCrunch. Local Bacon is a company that was featured at the TC50 event and they want to charge you, the applicant, when you apply for a job. Why? To make the hiring managers job of rejecting you easier. Call me new school I guess but I would think that searching resumes could be simplified through the use of technology.
Launching at the TechCrunch50
event today, LocalBacon wants to remove the clutter from the inboxes of many a manager or HR professional looking for the right person to put to work while at the same time giving job seekers the opportunity to stand out from the crowd in their quest to land a good position. The way they want to achieve that is by both increasing the quality of applications and decreasing their amount by charging potential candidates $0.99 (or more based on interest/demand) to apply.
Where is Seth and Amy because I need an oh REALLY right now. I also love how Techcrunch doesn’t even link to Monster.com when they write their post. That was probably mandated by Michael Arrington who is the owner of Tech Crunch. We have no proof of that, just speculating wildly.
Back on topic though, we are in a recession and unemployment is around the ever so impressive 10% mark. So let’s take all those people who are unemployed and charge them money every time they send their resume. Great idea. How techcrunch could even allow someone like that to present at TC50 shows that Arrington cares about money as much as he cares about his ego.
When I looked up “shill” in the dictionary this was the response and Robin wrote it:
Aside from the fairly innovative business model, LocalBacon also offers a pretty amazing lightweight program for employers to keep on top of applications across vacancies and applicants for managing their profiles and resumes.
Sign me sick and tired of getting screwed over each and every time I turn around. This is just another example of greed. A business model this terrible has no chance of surviving. We are thankful for that.
